Word of The Day: Komorebi

Komorebi

(n.) Light as it gently filters through the leaves of trees.

Japanese origin.

This word stretches beyond its literal meaning to capture the feeling of a moment of a specific phenomenon that is actually beyond words. A word such as this acts as a trigger to a feeling rather than a mechanism of explanation. You can memorize and recite this word, or you can go outside to experience what this words tries to relay.

"All who are not lunatics are agreed about certain things. That it is better to be alive than dead, better to be adequately fed than starved, better to be free than a slave. Many people desire those things only for themselves and their friends; they are quite content that their enemies should suffer. These people can only be refuted by science: Humankind has become so much one family that we cannot ensure our own prosperity except by ensuring that of everyone else. If you wish to be happy yourself, you must resign yourself to seeing others also happy."

"The Poetic Realities, The Poetic Fantasies" COMING SOON!

The Purpose of "The Power of Perception"

"The Power of Perception" is a unique book that blends deeper understandings with the experience of life. The purpose of human life is survival, art, expression, relation, and love. How do we enhance the art of living? How do we evolve psychologically? How can we better relate to the world and our society? How do we connect to nature?

The main goals of "The Power of Perception" are:
  • To encourage people to think and experience in elevated ways. Intelligence does not always equal elevated thinking.
  • To convince the convinced to be less convinced.
  • To bring levels of consciousness to functional levels to deal with the complexities of the human condition.
  • To trigger psychological evolution.
  • To encourage people that the truth they experience is a collective map of imprints and inputs and is not an absolute perspective of reality.
  • To entertain as well as enlighten.
  • To emphasize the importance of love, art, and experience.
  • To motivate life and living.

An entertaining and uplifting ride through perceptional mind reality that takes a good hard look at the way we relate to life and its possibilities and potentials. Not quite science, not quite philosophy, not quite psychology, not quite spirituality, this book attempts to make the deep easy to consume by using quotes, contemplations, profundities, prose, basic explanation, and the exploration of possibilities to bridge the gap between pure treatise and tabloid scrap.

What is The Power of Perception?

The Power of Perception is not exactly a new age book, a self-help book, a "new thought" book, or a spirituality book, and although motivating at times, it isn't really a motivational book.
The best way to explain this book is that it is an entertaining blend of optimistic lecture and engaging prose that observes the uncertainty of certainty and the certainty of uncertainty...a next step into the depths for the newly awakened.

The Mind of Bucky Fuller

Buckminster Fuller, one of the greatest minds in history.

"Dare to be naïve."

"Nature is trying very hard to make us succeed, but nature does not depend on us. We are not the only experiment."

"Relativity is inherently convergent, though convergent toward a plurality of centers of abstract truths. Degrees of accuracy are only degrees of refinement and magnitude in no way affects the fundamental reliability, which refers, as directional or angular sense, toward centralized truths. Truth is a relationship."

"So long as mathematicians can impose up-and-down semantics upon students while trafficking personally in the non-up-and-down advantages of their concise statements, they can impose upon the ignorance of man a monopoly of access to accurate processing of information and can fool even themselves by thought habits governing the becoming behavior of professional specialists, by disclaiming the necessity of, or responsibility for, comprehensive adjustment of the a priori thought to total reality of universal principles. The everywhere-relative velocities and momentums of interactions, of energetic phenomena of universe, are central to the preoccupations and realizations of the comprehensive designer. The concept of relativity involves high frequency of re-established awareness, and progressively integrating consideration of the respective, and also integrated dynamic complexities of the moving and transforming frame of reference and of the integrated dynamic complexities of the observed, as well as of the series of integrated sub-dynamic complexities, in respect to each of the major categories of the relatively moving frames of reference, of the observer and the observed. It also involves constant reference of all the reciprocating sub-sets to the comprehensive totality of non-simultaneous universe, from which naught may be lost."

"God, to me, it seems
is a verb,
not a noun,
proper or improper."

"The opposite of nature is impossible."

"Thinking is a momentary dismissal of irrelevancies."

"The Things to do are: the things that need doing, that you see need to be done, and that no one else seems to see need to be done. Then you will conceive your own way of doing that which needs to be done — that no one else has told you to do or how to do it. This will bring out the real you that often gets buried inside a character that has acquired a superficial array of behaviors induced or imposed by others on the individual."

"We must do away with the absolutely specious notion that everybody has to earn a living. It is a fact today that one in ten thousand of us can make a technological breakthrough capable of supporting all the rest. The youth of today are absolutely right in recognizing this nonsense of earning a living. We keep inventing jobs because of this false idea that everybody has to be employed at some kind of drudgery because, according to Malthusian-Darwinian theory, he must justify his right to exist. So we have inspectors of inspectors and people making instruments for inspectors to inspect inspectors. The true business of people should be to go back to school and think about whatever it was they were thinking about before somebody came along and told them they had to earn a living."

"I live on Earth at present, and I don't know what I am. I know that I am not a category. I am not a thing — a noun. I seem to be a verb, an evolutionary process — an integral function of the universe."

"Up to the Twentieth Century, reality was everything humans could touch, smell, see, and hear. Since the initial publication of the chart of the electromagnetic spectrum, humans have learned that what they can touch, smell, see, and hear is less than one-millionth of reality. Ninety-nine percent of all that is going to affect our tomorrows is being developed by humans using instruments and working in ranges of reality that are nonhumanly sensible."

“You never change things by fighting the existing reality.  To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”

“There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it’s going to be a butterfly.”

“When I am working on a problem, I never think about beauty... but when I have finished, if the solution is not beautiful, I know it is wrong.”

“Faith is much better than belief. Belief is when someone else does the thinking.”

“I’m not trying to counsel any of you to do anything really special except dare to think. And to dare to go with the truth. And to dare to really love completely.”

“Whenever I draw a circle, I immediately want to step out of it.”

“Everything you’ve learned in school as “obvious” becomes less and less obvious as you begin to study the universe. For example, there are no solids in the universe. There’s not even a suggestion of a solid. There are no absolute continuums. There are no surfaces. There are no straight lines.”

“Everyone is born a genius, but the process of living de-geniuses them.”

“I am convinced that creativity is a priority to the integrity of the universe and that life is regenerative and conformity meaningless.”

“I’m not a genius. I’m just a tremendous bundle of experience.”

“In order to change an existing paradigm you do not struggle to try and change the problematic model. You create a new model and make the old one obsolete.”

“Humanity is acquiring all the right technology for all the wrong reasons.”

“Sometimes I think we’re alone. Sometimes I think we’re not. In either case, the thought is quite staggering."

“If humanity does not opt for integrity we are through completely. It is absolutely touch and go. Each one of us could make the difference.”

“When I was born, humanity was 95 per cent illiterate. Since I’ve been born, the population has doubled and that total population is now 65 per cent literate. That’s a gain of 130-fold of the literacy. When humanity is primarily illiterate, it needs leaders to understand and get the information and deal with it. When we are at the point where the majority of humans them-selves are literate, able to get the information, we’re in an entirely new relationship to Universe. We are at the point where the integrity of the individual counts and not what the political leadership or the religious leadership says to do.”

“If success or failure of this planet and of human beings depended on how I am and what I do… How would I be?  What would I do?”

“Never forget that you are one of a kind. Never forget that if there weren’t any need for you in all your uniqueness to be on this earth, you wouldn’t be here in the first place. And never forget, no matter how overwhelming life’s challenges and problems seem to be, that one person can make a difference in the world. In fact, it is always because of one person that all the changes that matter in the world come about. So be that one person. ”

“I am a passenger on the spaceship Earth.”

“Love is omni-inclusive, progressively exquisite, understanding and compassionately attuned to other than self.”

“Either war is obsolete or men are.”

“I just invent. Then I wait until man comes around to needing what I’ve invented.”

“It is essential that anyone reading this book know at the outset that the author is apolitical. I was convinced in 1927 that humanity’s most fundamental survival problems could never be solved by politics.”

“If you want to teach people a new way of thinking, don’t bother trying to teach them. Instead, give them a tool, the use of which will lead to new ways of thinking.”

“I am convinced all of humanity is born with more gifts than we know. Most are born geniuses and just get de-geniused rapidly.”

“Human beings were given a left foot and a right foot to make a mistake first to the left, then to the right, left again and repeat.”

“We as economic society are going to have to pay our whole population to go to school and pay it to stay at school.”

“A designer is an emerging synthesis of artist, inventor, mechanic, objective economist and evolutionary strategist.”

“It is new design by architects versus world revolution by political leadership.”

“God is a verb.”

“Now there is one outstandingly important fact regarding Spaceship Earth, and that is that no instruction book came with it.”

“Children will draw pictures with everything in them…houses and trees and people and animals…and the sun AND the moon.  Grown-up says, “That’s a nice picture, Honey, but you put the moon and the sun in the sky at the same time and that isn’t right.”  But the child is right!  The sun and moon are in the sky at the same time.”

“Integrity is the essence of everything successful.”

“Initiative can neither be created nor delegated. It can only spring from the self-determining individual, who decides that the wisdom of others is not always better than his own.”

“My biggest hope that we’re going to make it here is that this thinking is being manifested and really employed by the young world.  Will they be going fast enough to overcome the initiatives of the bureaucracies and the fears operative in those bureaucracies?  It’s a very touch and go question.”

“It is one of our most exciting discoveries that local discovery leads to a complex of further discoveries.  Corollary to this we find that we no sooner get a problem solved than we are overwhelmed with a multiplicity of additional problems in a most beautiful payoff of heretofore unknown, previously unrecognized, and as-yet unsolved problems.”

“You can never learn less; you can only learn more.”

“The minute you begin to do what you want to do, it’s a different kind of life.”

“Thou mayest as well expect to grow stronger by always eating, as wiser by always reading. Too much overcharges Nature, and turns more into disease than nourishment. ‘Tis thought and digestion which make books serviceable, and give health and vigor to the mind.”

“Synergy means behavior of whole systems unpredicted by the behavior of their parts.”

“By and large, I seem to have made more mistakes than any others of whom I know, but have learned thereby to make ever swifter acknowledgment of the errors and thereafter immediately set about to deal more effectively with the truths disclosed by the acknowledgment of erroneous assumptions.”

“Nature does have manure and she does have roots as well as blossoms, and you can’t hate the manure and blame the roots for not being blossoms.”

“Pollution is nothing but the resources we are not harvesting. We allow them to disperse because we’ve been ignorant of their value.”

“Ninety-nine percent of who you are is invisible and untouchable.”

“How often I found where I should be going only by setting out for somewhere else.”

“Great nations are simply the operating fronts of behind-the-scenes, vastly ambitious individuals who had become so effectively powerful because of their ability to remain invisible while operating behind the national scenery.”

“Love is metaphysical gravity.”

“Man knows so much and does so little.”

“Search others for their virtue, and yourself for your vices.”

“We are not going to be able to operate our Spaceship Earth successfully nor for much longer unless we see it as a whole spaceship and our fate as common. It has to be everybody or nobody.”

“Most of my advances were by mistake. You uncover what is when you get rid of what isn’t.”

“People should think things out fresh and not just accept conventional terms and the conventional way of doing things.”

“What usually happens in the educational process is that the faculties are dulled, overloaded, stuffed and paralyzed so that by the time most people are mature they have lost their innate capabilities.”

“A proverb is much matter distilled into few words.”

“I look for what needs to be done. After all, that’s how the universe designs itself.”

“My ideas have undergone a process of emergence by emergency. When they are needed badly enough, they are accepted.”

"Relativity is inherently convergent, though convergent toward a plurality of centers of abstract truths. Truth is a relationship." -Buckminster Fuller

  • Reality (n. & v.):
Reality is the state of things as they actually exist, rather than as they may appear or might be imagined. In a wider definition, reality includes everything that is and has been, whether or not it is observable or comprehensible. Wikipedia

  • Life Doesn't Suck

    Why your life doesn't suck...

Everyone is stressed out. It isn't just you. You aren't special in that way. But what are we so stressed about? What were we stressed about then? What will we be stressed about when?

Stress reactions are natural and necessary to the organism. Without a sense of concern we might stand indefinitely on a pile of fire ants. However, as the human condition wanders more astray from natural life we find a complex situation in which our "survival reactions" (stress) becoming overloaded. This is irrational and can only be tempered by being aware of the psychological phenomenon. Hence this article.

When one begins to live an elevated mindset these petty concerns (delusions) are realized and dissolve into their necessary place. This could be called "liberation" through an understanding of the mind. It isn't always all roses and honey though. It is often a balancing act. We wobble and fumble and then we quit. What is it that compels us to quit freedom and serenity? We do this in many aspects of life. In physical fitness and health, for example, many humans will quit if it isn't done perfectly. This is called "falling off the wagon". We assume that if we aren't doing it perfectly then it isn't being done and it isn't worth doing. Could you imagine an Olympic gymnast on a balance beam being successful with such a foolish assertion? The balance of life isn't perfect, but it doesn't mean that life is awful.

There is a long and varied list of awesomeness to be experienced -a whole planetful actually. So why do so many people cling to misery? Most problems aren't problems. You can simply walk away from most "problems" (delusions) and find new and amazing adventures in every day life. Considering the alternative, why not truly live life? Why not let go?

Whatever you stressed about a week ago, or a year ago, is now utterly absurd. Whatever you will stress about a week from now or a year from now is completely a choice...in 99% of situations. Stress is necessary, but chronically and grossly overdone. The stress you put yourself through over nothing is more impactful than the stress our ancestors endured when they encountered a saber toothed tiger. It has even been shown that the average commuter in traffic endures more stress than a fighter pilot in combat, simply because the commuter has no recourse to take. But they do! You can design your lifetime circumvent unnecessary stressful complexities and you can design (choose) a mind that better deals with such complexities. Life is worth living. It is a choice. Why choose otherwise?

The only necessary (primal) stresses are rationally and reasonably related to food, shelter, water, love, and health/safety. Everything else is fringe and can be redesigned, redesignated, or let go.

"Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without." -Eustace Conway

“Wherever you are, be there totally. If you find your here and now intolerable and it makes you unhappy, you have three options: remove yourself from the situation, change it, or accept it totally”
    -Eckhart Tolle

What about a quick fix? You may need a quick fix to jolt you out of temporary insanity. There are many ways. One idea would be to step outside to observe and listen to birds. It is IMPOSSIBLE to truly observe birds and remain in a bad mood. Perhaps you can go stargazing, swimming, running, or hiking in nature. These acts of re-routing the mind involve changing the environmental experience around you into a direction beyond the trap of the pettiness our minds enslave us with.

Thomas Harris created an outline of four life positions we can find ourselves in (or choose to be in):
    1. I'm Not OK, You're OK (lower consciousness, bowing, submissive)
    2. I'm Not OK, You're Not OK (lower consciousness, fear, retreat)
    3. I'm OK, You're Not OK (lower consciousness, aggressiveness, control)
    4. I'm OK, You're OK (higher consciousness, friendly, even level)

There is happiness within the reach of your senses, but only if you are willing to see.

"Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."
    -Albert Einstein

Certainly there are naysayers that would say to me, "Yeah, that's all fine and good, but you don't know what I'm going through", but I know that deep down inside you know that I'm right. Most problems aren't problems. We all go through them, problems and non-problems. We aren't special in that way.

"Do what you love. Know your own bone; gnaw at it, bury it, unearth it, and gnaw it still." -Henry David Thoreau

    Self-Realization vs. Narcissism

    Self-Realization vs Narcissism

The understanding of the self does not exclude the self from the nature of reality which is a part of the self as much as the self is a part of the nature of reality. This principle can be easily summed up in the visual symbol of the yin and yang as well as in the self-repeating and self-similar patterns of physical and mathematic reality.

All of us, to some degree, experience a perception of ourselves from a position of self-doubt, attachment to social complexes (comparison), and the limited abstractions we make of our reality. These observations of the self create limited constructs. The self extends beyond the box we fit ourselves in.

Narcissism is a false self-assertion to cover and soothe the psychological fears of lack in our comparisons of the self to others and our experience of reality. A narcissist will see the self as a separate from everything. This is a delusional self defense mechanism. The narcissist plays the game of feeling superior to others and makes attempts, often successfully, to take from the world. These are affirmations to alleviate the deep pain of comparison and confusion within the lost ape condition. From here the narcissist/sociopath disregards the unity of everyone and everything and does not care about the consequence to others. The necessity of self gain at all costs overshadows the need to give in return. This lost ape mentality (importance of self above others) chooses to beat the "lesser apes" down with a stick to take all the bananas for himself/herself.

Self-realization, or self-actualization, is an entirely different path of self acknowledgement. This observation of the self leads to enlightened states of being, creativity, true joy, and richness of the experience of life. This state of self awareness does not separate the self from the external. The internal and external enter into a deep relationship that allows the giving of the talents and beauty of each person. The experiencer is part of the experience. This includes all that is experienced or can be experienced, both physically or metaphysically.

The expression of the self can be particularly challenging for artists, writers, teachers, and performers who must find a confidence in the self to promote what they feel inside. There is a major difference between a self-motivated politician promoting for gain and an expressive artist self promoting for gain. The artist needs the gain of giving their essence, where the narcissist needs the gain period. We are each a gift to the world at the root of our being, but the complexities of the human condition often block a true sense of self.

We can see our relationship to reality as two observational acts:
    1. Reaction (separateness-judgment)
    2. Interaction (connectedness-understanding)

The heightened experience of reality is a deep connection to nature, art, and the minds of others. The awareness of connection allows the mind to be free in a vast pool of everything, whereas the separated self is confined to a small muddy puddle. When the mind can touch everything, all of perceivable reality and beyond, then the limits are boundless. When the mind is so certain and rigid it finds itself separated from a total picture and must then self-verify through false sense of correctness, superiority, or power. The separated self must validate its position by any means of rationalization, even if distorted or dishonest.

For most people the path is a choice. The choice to self-actualization is through an intense connection to the deeper realities of everything- the mind, creation, music, nature, art, experience, the senses, and beyond. When one lets go of the self as separate, as best possible, one gains the self as whole and connected. One gains and gives the entire Universe.

Time, as we invent it, does not offer time enough for hatred, anger, greed, self-as-separate, oppression, or false reality. Including the self as an aspect of the external everything is timeless.

Narcissism is an extreme state of fear. When we expand our understanding beyond our immediate versions of reality the unknown becomes known and the boundaries are spread beyond misunderstanding and judgment that lead to such gripping fear. When we let go of our reactions of what we do not understand then we open new doors.

Love, humor, creation, breath, and deep experience allow the walls to fall. This is transcendental awareness- extending beyond the confines of self-as-separate rather than staring at the walls of the self-as-separate. It can not be gained without giving.

"So then, the relationship of self to other is the complete realization that loving yourself is impossible without loving everything defined as other than yourself." -Alan Watts

All you are is an experience of the self, which includes the experience of the internal and external. It is not only the body, not only the mind, not only the spirit, not only the attachment, not only the world, not only the cosmos, and not only somethingness or nothingness. There is in actuality no separateness.

    SUPPORT!

    Getting Deeper Into The Experience

Surface level experience of life comprises less than 1% of potential elevation. Materialism (attachment) is a major component of this small fraction of the experience of reality. We see many people making surface level attempts at a connection to a deeper reality, but they tend to dig no deeper than that. They buy lifestyle adornments and self-help or new thought spirituality books and engage in all the cliche spiritual materialism. It all feels good. It's quick and easy- spirituality lite. These things can act as triggers to a beginning for deeper intentions, but many people get stuck at the start line. The surface level spiritual materialism is comparable to McDonald's, it's quick and convenient, but even though it may fill the belly it offers very little good nutrition. I like modern day spiritual teachers such as Eckhart Tolle. They do great good in a confused world such as ours, and they act as starting beacons for the newly awakened, but the buck doesn't stop there. All of these modern spirituality principles are not new. They reach back into our primal souls.

So where can deeper spirituality be found?
Once you have entered the surface level it is important to remember that the method is the tool and not the experience itself. The tools are varied and peculiar to the individual. One may find the deeper experiences in meditation, nature, science, yoga, psychology, philosophy, mantras, drugs, music, art, sunsets, laughter, creative expression, exercise, good deeds, mathematics, space travel, knitting, fishing, or any of the many paths up the mountain. These acts are not the transcendental experience itself, but may act as a unique path into the richness of life that transcends the method. It is also important to remember that transcendental experience is nothing mystical. It is a natural state of being that has been lost in the complex clutter of the human condition.

Life is full of rich experiences found within common phenomena. There is never boredom but to a mind trapped in confining thought cycle. The expansion of the mind can allow an openness that allows for the emptiness that transcends thought. Buzz words, catch phrases, pendants, dogmatisms, clothing, trendy books, and other lifestyle attachments are only starting points, like diving boards to be jumped from into a deep pool. It is a process of letting go after the climb.

"Talk of mysteries! - Think of our life in nature, - daily to be shown matter, to come in contact with it, - rocks, trees, wind on our cheeks! The solid earth! The actual world! The common sense! Contact! Contact! Contact who are we? Where are we?" -Henry David Thoreau

Books act as supplemental study to the experiences. Memorization of facts is only acquired knowledge that may lead to wisdom if applied and transcended. Just as an athlete can transcend conscious thought in action, we can transcend conscious thought in mind and experience and touch a deeper reality. This is the basis of skill, to be able to perform actions without thought, to be in the moment. We may see the tree as it is rather than what it is. We can see ourselves as we are rather than what we will be or what has happened to us. Transcending thought and time brings the human experience into now. A rich color repairs the world that has been dulled by our attachment to thought.

Almost every human being has an ability for higher purpose and experience. We are meant for our natural state of existence. Let every moment be something rich rather than a reactionary method of the hijacked mind. There is beauty in even the murkiest pond. Transcend the attached mind. See more than is obvious. The answers are simple and natural.

    Some books to dig deeper:
    "Walden" by Henry David Thoreau
    "Critical Path" by Buckminster Fuller
"Quantum Psychology" by Robert Anton Wilson
    "The Vedas"
    "Nature" by Ralph Waldo Emerson
"The Universe in a Single Atom" by The Dalai Lama

    Acts of deeper experience:
Meditation (sailing beyond the battering waves of the mind)
Walking in nature (a sensory experience our minds absorb well)
Listening to music with a deep mind
    Experiencing art beyond its imagery
Creating art (visual, music, writing, performing)
Studying great minds and philosophies (to gain an understanding of deeper mind and its relation to reality)
Study of Quantum Physics, relativity, fractals, and the golden ratio (to gain an understanding of deeper reality)
The study of poetry and prose (to gain an understanding of the expression and experience of metaphysical reality)
Love (to give and receive purpose)

    The Power of Perception

    Quantum Physics and The Vedas

Physicists have made great discoveries about the mathematics of the quantum functions that make up the universe, but they often consult with Buddhist monks or Yogis or Vedantists to get a better understanding of the concepts and philosophies of Quantum Physics.

This article discusses the forefathers of modern quantum mechanics and how they studied The Vedas.

"While the West was still thinking, perhaps, of a 6,000 year old universe, India was already envisioning ages and eons and galaxies as numerous as the sands of The Ganges. The Universe so vast that astronomy slips into its folds without a ripple."
    - Huston Smith

"For physicists, then, Shiva's dance is the dance of subatomic matter. Hundreds of years ago, Indian artist created visual images of dancing Shivas in a beautiful series of bronzes. Today, physicist have used the most advanced technology to portray the pattern of the cosmic dance. Thus, the metaphor of the cosmic dance unifies, ancient religious art and modern physics. The Hindus, according to Monier-Williams, were Spinozists more than 2,000 years before the advent of Spinoza, and Darwinians many centuries before Darwin and Evolutionists many centuries before the doctrine of Evolution was accepted by scientists of the present age."
    - Carl Sagan

"When I read the Bhagavad-Gita and reflect about how God created this universe everything else seems so superfluous."
    - Albert Einstein
